Hi all,
It's time for Pairs to be highlighted again. IMHO, the best Pro and Am pair left in the world today is most likely Isabelle Brasseur and Lloyd Eisler of Canada. They have the most amazing lifts, twists and tricks I've ever seen and each year they seem to take more chances and continue to develop, rather than rest on their susbstantial laurels.

Pairs are my favorite event. IMHO B&E (while not my absolute favorites, but up there) are the most fun to watch! And they look like they are having fun as well (although what they do must be incredibly strenuous)! Their headbanger (just saw it again on the Legends repeat) is awesome. It is also nice to see somebody having so much trust in somebody else.
I assume they plan to skate together, despite Brasseur's marraige to Rocky Marval?

I am really pleased to find that Isabelle Brasseur and Lloyd Eisler are featured as this weeks skaters of the week. I have always felt that the performances by them are far more interesting than those of other skaters due to the level of difficulty incorporated in their programs. No matter how many low scores it may cause in competitions, the death drop that they perform is absolutely spectacular and daring. I along with many others hope that this team will continue to skate together and create new and exciting programs for audiences to enjoy. If anybody has an idea as to whether they are still together as a pair, please let me know. I would also like to congratulate Isabelle on her recent marriage to Rocky Marval. I wish them much happiness in their lives together, and hopefully both will continue skating with their partners.

Other than mu absolute faves G&G, B&E are my second faves. They are innovative and have a unique and strong way of putting together a program that captivates the audience. I think tha Lloyd is strong but so gentle with Isabelle. Great pair

I have long thought that BnE were the best pair skaters out there. Actually, they are the whole reason I fell in love with skating in the first place. All of their tricks are absolutely amazing, but it's still nice to know that they can be artistic as well. While the judges are really unfair sometimes, I think they deserve to win most of their competitions. I am very glad that Isabelle and Lloyd are finally skaters of the week :-)

I am not sure what you mean by a death drop. I have never seen them do one. Do you mean a head-banger? They will continue to skate together despite Isabelle's marriage to Rocky. There are no plans on busting up either team.

I think Brasseur and Eisler are the best pairs team ever! They have been criticized for their lack of speed and their style, because it doesn't match the Russians, but B&E have their own style. It would be silly for them to develop a classical style because it doesn't match their personalities. I get upset when they don't get the marks they deserve in competition and give the thumbs up to Lloyd for telling the judges how he felt at the 1995 Pro Championships. These two are so cute together and all their programs are so much fun to watch. I hope these two skate together for a long time. I look forward to seeing them every year in the Campbell's tour and their new and exciting programs. I hope Isabelle is happy with Rocky, but what about Lloyd? Is he dating anyone?

Thanks for the wonderful choice of Brasseur and Eisler as Skaters of the Week. They are my absolute favorites, and I disagree with the judges who didn't score them higher at the Olympics. I agree that it shoud have been their year! But, that's all water over the dam now. I respect Lloyd and Isabelle for skating the way THEY want to now, and not necessarily to please the judges. I can't think of a program they have done that I didn't like. Congratulations to Isabelle and Rocky Marvel on their marriage. I am glad that each is going to continue to skate with their respective partners. I can't picture Isabelle without Lloyd. They go together (on the ice).

I love B&E! Along with G&G, they are my all-time favorite pair (sorry, I can't choose between the two pairs!). They offer a completely different look, and I am glad that they have chosen to do programs they believe in instead of letting the judges smash them into "cookie-cutter skating". Isabelle has come so far with her confidence and her artistry, and she has learned how to skate with that big lug (I remember an interview where she said she was astounded when she was first told that Lloyd was her new partner). She has proven she is courageous and tough, skating with injuries and doing a great job. And Lloyd is so wonderful -- his strength in the lifts and throws is amazing. I also think this pair treats each other with a lot of respect and admiration on the ice -- and they have great chemistry. Watching their programs, I get the idea that they are true friends who like each other and like their audience. I hope they will skate together for a long time [and that I get to see them in person sometime soon :^)].

You know Kimber, your taste in skaters has definitely picked up the last two weeks. You've nailed my three favorite Canadians and my all time favorite pair team in the last two weeks. What to say about Lloyd and Isabelle.
I think the picture that stands out in my mind will always be that of Lloyd all the way through that long program in 94 at Worlds. Constantly asking Isabelle if she wanted to stop, he looked as if he wanted to cry for her. Lloyd is the epitome of what a pair skater should be. He is caring and concerned, strong, but sensitive, wise and gentle. He recognizes when to pull back if a danger presents itself. I remember the self condemnation and worry in his eyes when they took a bad fall in a pro comp. He told the reporter afterward that it was the first time in his career he had ever dropped a partner from a lift.
When I think of Isabelle I see her struggle to be the best through intense pain. I see the determination to win and I see the dedication to her father and the love that she had for him. Isabelle is sweet and wholesome. She's the girl next door and everybody wants to make life perfect for her. I hope That life is always perfect for her.
In my life, and my opinion, I have never seen a more perfectly pleasing, technically and artistically, pair than Lloyd and Isabelle.

I agree wholeheartedly! There is such an obvious CARING between these two....their friendship comes thru loud and clear. And what a brave woman she must be! Also a thrill seeker from wht I hear! How else could they perform all the wild athletic stunts that seem to be their trademark?

That's because I love them all! :)
Speaking of which, I'll add my favorite B&E moment. It was at the (counting on fingers) 1990 World Championships. I had seem them skate before, but hadn't really been that impressed....he seemed so huge and she was so little....seemed like she had to run across the ice in order to keep up and she looked scared to death.
1990 was yet another year in which Russian/Soviet skaters dominated Pairs, but by far, the most exciting performance of the competition was the long program of Isabelle and Lloyd. Had they placed higher after the short, they might have even snatched the gold away from the by-then legendary G&G.
What a podium they had that year.....G&G, B&E and M&D. I remember hearing during the Olympics that B&E kept a picture of that podium on their training rink wall, as a reminder of where they wanted to be. They were tough, competitive, didn't mind a challenge and would take advantage in any way they could of a competitor's mistake. In this sense, they were the true athletes in Pairs.
M&D went on to beat them for the gold the following year with "Dreams of Love." Fred's reaction? "Oh well, we'll get 'em next year!"
